 Evaluation Service for Single Works of Prose

If you are a writer of flash fiction, short story, memoir, personal essay, or CNF, or if you are an artist with something important to say about your work, you may apply to take advantage of our evaluation and/or editing services for single works. 

Description of services:

Evaluation for prose will include a detailed analysis of craft, including (when appropriate) an appraisal of the work’s traditional or experimental system of organization; its pacing, backstory development and theme development; its use of selective detail, dialogue, and imagery; its management of atmosphere, mood and character development; its POV; its diction and rhetorical style; its narrative voice; and its total effect on a typical reader. Included as well will be a critique of its grammar, usage, phrasing, and sentence structure and dialogue. 

Also included will be advice on seeking publication for the work.

Jeff Streeby IS O:JA&L’S Associate Editor For Poetry & Prose. He is a Pushcart Prize nominee and a nominee for Sundress Press' Best of the Net Anthology and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire. He is an award-winning and frequently published mainstream poet whose work has appeared in over 40 literary journals in the US, the UK, Ireland, and Asia, including Contemporary Haibun Online, Haibun Today, Naugatuck River Review, Rattle, and Whiskey Island. His haibun “El Paso: July” was selected by Robert Olen Butler for inclusion in The Best Small Fictions 2015 from Queen’s Ferry Press. Streeby is a writing consultant for second-language academic writers working in English. He has over 30 years experience as a teacher of English language and literature at secondary and university levels.
